Recently, Nadine Spenser of Montreal opened North America’s first cat and coffee shop simply titled: The Cat Café. Cat cafés already exist in Asia and Europe.
The café has eight cats, all adopted from the SPCA, including Snow, King Kong, and Bigfoot who has big feet because of his extra toes.
Anybody is welcome to come and spend some time with the cats and have a brew. However, there are some rules:
- No picking up the cats
- No feeding the cats
- No disturbing napping cats
- No bringing in cats from outside the café.
The cats have free reign of the place and have their own room for some privacy and to escape those pesky humans. The litter box is hidden behind some curtains for both the privacy of the cats and so customers don’t have to experience the “business.”
With the coffee and cats, there are cat beds and shelves for laying on, cat trees for climbing and cat toys, like a tunnel and a feathers on a string and stick, so patrons can interact and play with the furry felines. Customers enjoy spending time with the cats even taking pictures of them.
So if you’re in Montreal, visit The Cat Café, have some java and enjoy a cuddle or a rub. A scratch would be nice, too.
Look for more cat & coffee shops in Vancouver and Toronto. Or maybe open one of your own.
