Look What The Cat Dragged In!

Rusty (He’s gone from us but still loved!)

As cat lovers, we know our felines bring home dead or half dead small animals and leave them on the doorstep or bring them in the house, perhaps leaving a trail of feathers. But has your cat brought in anything unusual or has anything different happen as a result of a dead mouse or bird?

We had a beautiful orange boy named Rusty who was constantly eating out of trashcans, and we would call him “garbage guts.”   One day, Rusty brought home something unusual for a cat. We went outside to find 2 1/2 wieners on the doorstep. He found these hotdogs somewhere. One by one in his mouth, he brought them home, always going back to where he found them until they were all home. One was half eaten, and rest was for us. Yumm!!

Our Siamese Sam didn’t bring anything unusual home just a dead mouse. He walked into the living room with it in his mouth and laid the thing my carpet. My two children (4 and 6 years of age) marvelled at Sam’s catch and petted him for it, saying, “Good kitty.” After a minute, I took the mouse by the tail and threw it outside. Sam ran after it.  Later, he came back in with a big belly and laid around the rest of the day and night. That night, I called my mother on the phone and told her what happened when my son piped up and said, “Sam killed a dead mouse!” And we laughed.

You just never know what’s gonna happen when your cat drags something home. Has your cat brought anything unusual home? Please tell us in the comments section. Thanks!
